Although he was making progress with people, Si’s health began to decline in August of 2017. He does not get along with other cats, especially male cats. He can be very dominant towards them, and also tends to get bullied by other males as well. This was causing him a great deal of stress, which lead to his medical issues.  

 

He began experiencing urinary tract problems. Our vet partner, Brighton-Eggert Animal Clinic, did x-rays and determined that he had a large amount of bladder stones and cystitis (inflammation of the bladder). They believe that this especially flares up when he is stressed, and with continued stress, he could develop a blockage. This would require emergency surgery.  

 

To help reduce his stress, we separated Si from all other cats and gave him his own room to run around in. This move has proven to be the best thing for him. Si has become a much more relaxed, confident, and happy cat! His urinary issues have resolved but he is still on a maintenance urinary diet. He has developed a strong bond with a few crew members, and he is the most loving and comfortable with them. He rolls around for belly rubs, meows for attention, rubs all over your legs, gives head bumps, and even is okay with being picked up and sitting in your lap. He absolutely loves Friskies “Party Mix” treats, his favorite toy is bouncy foam balls. He has shown us that he is a truly remarkable cat.  

 

He does not act this way with everyone, though. He is still very cautious around new people which can make it difficult for an adopter to connect with him. He is very guarded, but once you break down his walls he is such an affectionate boy. His adopter must be willing to make multiple visits in order for him to begin to trust them and show his true wonderful personality.  

 

Si will require life-long care for his urinary issues. This mostly consists of a diet of Hill’s Prescription Diet “c/d Urinary Care” dry food and canned food three times daily. This diet prevents crystals from forming and also prevents crystals from adhering to the bladder wall. He is also on a glucosamine supplement, which is Dasuquin for cats. This supplement prevents crystals from adhering to the bladder lining and also helps to combat inflammation related to cystitis. In a low stress environment, it is likely that he will never develop a blockage, but an adopter must be aware of the possibility.  

 

Si needs a quiet home that will give him all of the love he deserves. He should not be with other cats, dogs, or young children and must be indoor only. We know that he will do fantastic in a loving home. He 'mustache' you a question, will that home be with you?

Si is neutered, current on vaccinations (Rabies and Distemper), has been  treated for fleas, dewormed,  has tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia and is microchipped.
