Meet Poppy! This gorgeous boy is about 3 years old. He has been at Tabby Town since November 2017. Poppy was found by a good samaritan after he was abandoned in an apartment building in Rochester, he was rescued by the Verona Street Animal Society. Poppy is a very sweet guy. He takes some time to get used to a new environment, but once he does he’s very friendly and loving. He was born with a birth defect in his tail, so it’s only about half of the length of a normal cat tail. He is currently in a quiet room. He does fine with other cats and enjoys a quieter space to relax and hang out. Once someone comes in the room, he will approach you looking for love. He doesn’t mind being brushed and since he has long hair he should be brushed regularly. Poppy would do best in a home without young children or dogs. Poppy was recently diagnosed with early kidney disease. kidney disease is the loss of kidney function over time. Healthy kidneys perform many important functions, mostly filtering the blood and making urine, so problems with kidney function can result in a variety of health problems for a cat. Although there is no cure for kidney disease, there are treatment options which can help manage it and slow the progression. Poppy is on a diet of Hill’s k/d and canned food several times a day. His canned and dry foods need to be low protein. He is also on a supplement of Aluminum Hydroxide powder which is added to his canned food 2x daily to aid in Phosphorus binding. Poppy’s blood work will be rechecked in 3 months to re evaluate his kidney function. Poppy is a fantastic boy who would thrive in a furever home with lots of love and veterinary care. Stop by to meet Poppy today, you will fall in love just as we all have! Poppy will be a special adoption handled by Tabby Town’s medical team. If you are interested in adopting Poppy, please contact Brooke at brooke@tabbytown.org for more information. Poppy is neutered, up to date on vaccinations (rabies and distemper), and has tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia.
