Meet Chippy! This friendly boy is about 4 years old. He was sadly returned to Tabby Town in July of 2016 when his owner lost her job and could no longer take care of him. Chippy is a very sweet boy. He’s pretty mild-mannered and friendly, so he often gets to walk around the store during the day. He loves to play with the other cats. He’s known to be a little mischievous by “helping” to ring up the cash register, but we love his silly pers onality. Like most cats he can be a bit feisty when overstimulated, but he’s pretty good about walking away when he wants to be left alone. He's good with other cats and in his previous home was also with a dog. Chippy is special needs because of his severe stomatitis. This is a painful inflammation of the mouth and gums. The exact cause of stomatitis is poorly understood. One theory is that the cat’s immune system begins to reject the teeth, it sees them as foreign objects so the gums inflame to keep these “foreign objects” away. Most cats with stomatitis require dental surgery and medication to reduce the pain. He has had dental surgery to remove most of his teeth, and may be on steroid medication for the rest of his life to keep the inflammation down. His last check-up showed that his teeth were doing well, so in March he will be rechecked again to determine whether or not his medication can be reduced or stopped all together. Because of his stomatitis, his adoption will be through our medical team so any potential adopter is fully aware of his condition and how it can be treated moving forward. Chippy is neutered, current on vaccinations (rabies and distemper), and has tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia. If you are interested in adopting Chippy, or have any questions, please email Kaylee at kaylee@tabbytown.org.
