Meet Opie! This stunningly handsome man is about 6 months old. Opie is a sweet and friendly boy! He can be a little nervous in new environments, loud noises and sudden movements seem to frighten him. Once he feels comfortable he is a love. Opie is friendly and playful. He gets along well with other cats. Opie started to experience some vomiting and appetite loss, so we took him to our vet right away. They found that his gums were extremely inflamed, while they could not give us an exact diagnosis they did let us know what it could be. Opie may either be experiencing a severe reaction to losing his baby teeth or he may have juvenile gingivitis which is a precursor to the common oral/dental condition in cats called Stomatitis, which would require life long medications and constant monitoring. It is rather uncommon for a cat of his age to develop Stomatitis, usually cats who are at least 3-4 years old are affected. The vets would like to see Opie again in about 1-2 months to recheck his mouth and give us a better idea of what we are dealing with. Opie will be a special adoption due to his on going medical needs, if you are interested in adopting this handsome boy, please call the shelter at (716) 822-4910, or email kaylee@tabbytown.org and ask to make an appointment with, Kaylee or Lee Ann, who will be handling his adoption process.
