Domestic Long Hair / Tortoiseshell (long coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Medium
Meet Mocha! This beautiful long haired torti lady is about 2 years old. She has been a Tabby Town resident since October of 2018.
Mocha arrived at Tabby Town after her family could not provide the type of environment she needed. She had been in a home since she was a kitten, but when her owners brought home a new baby, Mocha became extremely fearful. She ended up finding safety/comfort in a closet, and lived primarily there for about one year. She was surrendered with the hope of finding her a more quiet home.
After spending so much time in a isolated environment, Mocha had some difficulty adjusting to life at Tabby Town. Many of the new sights and sounds caused her anxiety. Eventually, she became comfortable in her condo, but didn’t want to explore much else. While Mocha is free to move around the room she usually prefers the safety and comfort of her own condo.
Mocha currently lives in our "Senior Cat" room since it is quieter and the cats are a bit more laid back. The volunteers have spent a long time socializing her and helping build her confidence. While she has made a lot of progress, she is still very timid. Once she feels comfortable and trusts you she is very sweet, and enjoys gentle petting and chin scratches. Mocha really likes the people she is familiar with, she is the most loving and outgoing with them. It definitely takes her some time to warm up to new people.
We feel it might be best for an adopter to make multiple visits so Mocha can become familiar with them as she is cautious around strangers and will likely not make an immediate connection upon first meeting.
During a routine physical exam with our vet partner, Brighton Eggert Animal Clinic, it was discovered that Mocha was in need of a dental. She had a cleaning with multiple extractions on March 22nd, she has a follow up appointment on April 17th to ensure that her mouth is longer inflamed and that she can be fully cleared for adoption.
We had a bit of a hard time initially getting Mocha to eat after she arrived to Tabby Town, eventually we finally found a dry kibble that she would eat. She is currently eating Royal Canin - Baby Cat, but she can be transitioned to a new diet once in a home.
Mocha gets along well with other cats. A confident cat may even help her come out of her shell more in a home. Because of her past reactions to children, she should not be in a home with young children. She has never been around dogs, but because of her timid nature we would recommend a quiet and calm dog. Mocha would do best in a quiet, low stress environment.
Mocha is a very sweet and gentle kitty who we know would blossom even more in a home ❤️
