Tessa survived a good part of the winter weather outside. She showed up with a group of feral cats that were being taken care of in the city of Buffalo. She must have had a home at one time in her life because she was very friendly towards the caretaker of the colony. She started to follow her around as if she was saying that she wanted her own home. We were so glad that we had the room to take her in because we agreed with Tessa-she needed an indoor home. She is approximately two years old and she is a tortie with tortitude! If you have never known a tortoiseshell cat (tortie), you may not know that they can be a cat with attitude. It doesn’t mean that she can’t be friendly, sweet and affectionate. It just means that it’s on her terms and not yours.
She loves, loves, loves her soft food. We aren’t sure why she’s crazy over it but it may be because she was fighting for food when she was outside and now it’s such a treat to have soft food and not have to share any of her food with any other cat.
She was a bit standoffish at first but it may have just been instinct to protect herself from people. Her caretaker never shooed her away of course, but we don’t know how her interactions were with other people she met. Since learning that she can trust people and she doesn't have to fight for her food, she has mellowed and is turning into sweetheart.
Because of her experiences while she was outside, Tessa wants to be the princess in her new home and not have to share you. Her adopter also needs to be able to feed her wet food since she isn’t a fan of the dry.
